Ajit Pal Singh is currently the chief advisor of the Delhi franchise team, the Delhi Waveriders, a major participant of Hero Hockey India League. A prominent personality in the area of field hockey in India, he was a former field hockey player in Indian national team. He played for the team at the center-half position and even donned the cap of captain in the national team. Besides being an Arjuna award winner he was conferred the award of Padma Shri in 1992. Ajit Pal Singh helped India win two bronze medals in Olympics where he represented the Indian hockey team in 3 Olympics games from 1968 to 1976. He bagged a gold medal in 1975 Hockey World Cup and has an impressive international hockey career and hence the decision to make him a part of the Hero Hockey India League. Associated with Delhi Waveriders team, Ajit Palâ€™s valuable opinions and experience have helped the players in the field. In a recent press conference, the DWRâ€™s chief advisor stated, â€œNew players, Diwakar Ram and Andrew Haywards will help the team give a strong defense. It will also reduce the pressure on Rupindar Paul, our penalty-corner specialist.â€ He is quite content with the present team of Waveriders and is hopeful that they will grab the Hero Hockey India League 2016 cup for sure. Singh is optimistic about goalkeepers, Erasmus Pieterse and Pirmin Blaak, who are not giving any scope of making the team miss Nicolas Jacobi, the German goalkeeper. He is a sportsman who never gives pressure on the Delhi Waveriders players. His positive speeches and encouragements towards the DWR team is constantly keeping them motivated and making them play better.
