Leonardo DiCaprio deserves to win an Oscar this time: Devon Manchester

Devon Manchester, the Black Sticks goalkeeper, is among the best in the game. He is one of the three New Zealand players who have been signed up for the fourth edition of Hockey India League by Delhi Waveriders, along with the New Zealand captain Simon Child and midfielder Steve Edwards.

We had an exclusive chat with him and came to know a few interesting things about our goalie. When asked about his expectations from this HIL (Hockey India League) Season, Devon said, “This is the first time I am playing in the Hockey India League, new experiences and challenges are waiting for me. So far I love training under our coach and playing with Indian players.”

When asked about India and his experience so far, Devon said, “I have been to India a few times but I think this is quite different. We’re travelling around the country, with Indian team-mates and other players from different countries. It adds a different dimension and you experience a lot more.”

“I love Indian food, curries, chicken tikka and other things as long as they are not spicy. I love a little bit of spice but I don’t want my head to be blown off because of it.” Devon added.

When asked about his favourite sports person, Devon said, “I don’t really have a single favourite as I love various other sports as well like Cricket, Rugby and Basketball. However, Roger Federer would be one of the major ones.”

Manchester also expressed his interest in Bollywood and is planning to watch some movies while he is here. “Leonardo DiCaprio deserves to win an Oscar this time, his performance in various movies is amazing.” Devon added talking about his favourite actor.

“Work hard, always be open to learn from others and incorporate what works for you. Above all, enjoy it.” Devon concluded with his advice for the young players who plan out their career in Hockey.
